Everything's Related: Work by KB Studio Artists

Beginning in September 2025, artists in the Open Sketchbook mentorship program have been working with our new Everything's Related theme. Each month we explore multiple projects based on a pair of ideas executed on two facing sketchbook pages. By working with prompts in a side-by-side format, artists are able to develop ideas in relationship to one another, pushing and pulling emergent images by way of material processes that offer surprising and informative results.

Our monthly concepts have included Rivers and Roads, Forms and Forces, Marks and Movements, and most recently, Edges and OpeningsThe Edges and Openings projects focused on edges observed in nature, on physical objects, and in abstract gestures, and the many ways that these soft:hard, continuous:broken, porous:solid and organic:geometric stylings work in service of open, elastic, expansive, and dynamic spatial relationships.

The complementary images below are just a few examples of the wonderful work that was created over the past month and were made with a wide variety of materials including watercolor, gouache, liquid ink, pen and ink, and collage.
