Open Sketchbook Summer Projects
Over the past few months, we have been working with a variety of themes and prompts related to the spirit of summer fun. During the month of June we explored the subject of Expansion as a way to open up new pathways in projects currently underway. We framed work through the geometric Quincunx pattern, looked at comics and cartoons for narratives and humor, and took inspiration from the colorful frivolity of the circus.
In July we took on the theme Topsy Turvy to see what could develop when working with ideas upside down, twisted around, and reversed. Painting and collage projects explored inverting subject matter, building collage through a 360 degree lens, and working with opposite colors. Examples of these delightful, spirited works are included below.
