Auras and Enigmas
During the month of February, artists in the Open Sketchbook mentorship program created new work under the subject Everything's Related and our monthly theme Auras and Enigmas. Weekly projects were based on glowing light patterns, unusual objects and odd occurrences. Works by Morris Graves, Gertrude Abercrombie and Yayoi Kusama were studied for their mystical, surreal and otherworldly qualities. Artists worked with watercolor and ink washes, collage, layering and mixed media.
Discovering ways to develop images that embody the beautiful mystery of auras and the intriguing peculiarity of enigmas allowed for new visual dynamics and material alchemies to emerge. Previous monthly themes have included Rivers and Roads, Forms and Forces, Marks and Movements, Edges and Openings and This and That. The works below represent the wonderful expressive undertakings of each of the artists and their commitment to creative exploration and experimentation.
