The Open Sketchbook mentorship program offers support for visual artists seeking to develop their studio work through in-depth sketchbook research. Conceptual and technical skills are explored through weekly thematic prompts that focus on a variety of forms and forces found in the natural world, stories and symbols embedded in our collective culture, and other related subjects of interest. A wide range of contemporary materials, methods, and approaches are explored.
Tuesday night Zoom meetings on May 6, 13, 20 and 27 allow participants to work together, share ideas, and discuss art with a supportive community of artists. Two 1-hour individual online or in-person mentoring sessions are also included and can be scheduled with the instructor on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Creating meaningful, expressive sketchbook work through dedicated practice and exploring these investigations beyond the sketchbook are the goals of this course.
