Sketchbook Essentials

The Sketchbook Essentials mentorship program offers support and guidance for visual artists seeking to develop their studio work through purposeful sketchbook research and experimentation. Conceptual and technical skills are explored through weekly thematic prompts that focus on the fundamental nature of things, the necessary tools for shaping ideas, and the creation of visual harmonies mined from one's life experiences. Working with a wide range of contemporary materials, methods, and approaches promotes an active, energetic space for wandering and discovery. 

Tuesday night Zoom meetings on September 8, 15, 22 and 29 allow participants to work together, share ideas, and discuss art with a supportive community of artists. Two 1-hour individual on-line or in-person mentoring sessions are also included and can be scheduled with the instructor on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Creating meaningful, expressive sketchbook work through dedicated practice and exploring these investigations in projects beyond the sketchbook are the goals of this course.
