Participants in this on-site workshop will meet at Loyola Beach Park to explore the shapes, shadows, and surfaces of Chicago's lakefront. Working in sketchbooks with a variety of materials, students will examine the topography of the beach and shoreline, the dunes restoration project, and Lake Michigan as viewed from the Loyola Beach pier. Materials experimentation and digital photography will guide a sequential approach to capturing the physical and temporal nature of the lakeside environment.
Drawing and painting materials will be provided but students are required to bring their own sketchbooks suitable for both wet and dry media (size 9" x 12" and mixed-media paper is best).
In the event of inclement weather, a future date will be set or students can request a full refund.
This online workshop is open to students of all levels. No prior drawing or painting experience is required.
Registration deadline: Friday, June 4th
