The Envision: Studio Research & Practice course offers mentorship and community for visual artists seeking to expand their conceptual, material, and technical skills in relationship to subjects of personal interest and the expanding range of contemporary art production. Individually conceived projects are supported by sketchbook research and an open investigation of materials and ideas, with an emphasis on the natural environment and our rapidly changing physical and socio-cultural landscape. Envisioning, creating, and maintaining a meaningful contemporary art practice is the goal.
Drawing, mixed-media, and painting practices are supported by weekly sketchbook prompts, conceptual challenges, group projects, and the sharing of new work with a dedicated community of artists. Participants meet weekly for one-on-one mentoring sessions and for Tuesday night group meetings. One-on-one sessions can be scheduled in-person (following Covid protocols) or on Zoom for those outside of the Chicago area, with tight schedules, or transportation issues. Appointment times are arranged upon registration.
